The Future of Construction Education
2009
A privilege - travelling and conducting research. Unexpected – having your travel reciprocated and your research findings swiftly actioned. This literal fragment is emblematic of the career-defining networks and conversations that resulted from my BHTS project - ‘BuildAbility: The Future of Construction Education’. Prof Dr Philippe Block (ETH), a key research contact, travelled to Sydney in 2012 and along with myself and David Pigram, delivered a two-week design/build/research workshop to thirteen UTS M.Arch. students. Designed using RhinoVault and entitled ‘Ribbed Catalan’, the completed ribbed tile vault yielded an award-winning studio with published research on digital/analogue relationships, masonry vaulting and innovative pedagogies.
